A new acquaintance

New people – new impressions!
As I already mentioned, I like being a realtor because of meeting new people. Once I was dealing with an apartment owned by an old Jewish couple. That was an amazing experience! The design was very different from things I’ve seen before, everything was a bit old-fashioned, but made with love. They told me a lot of interesting things about their culture, especially about the Wailing Wall:

  • This is one of the best-known shrines of Jewish people built many-many years ago. It has seen a lot of governors, and a lot of attitudes towards it.

  • The history of the Western Wall (as it is often referred to) is long and terrible; for many centuries, Jews weren’t allowed to visit their sacred Temple Mount, all that they could was crying about it in front of a small wall. Can you imagine something like this in present days?

  • Everyone who visits the Wailing Wall can leave a prayer note asking God for help. This couple secretly told me that they couldn’t have kids, so they asked for a baby, and put their wish into the Wall. Now they have three children and two grandchildren, so it works!

They told me that if I ever happen to visit Jerusalem, I should definitely leave a note of my own.

Wonderful contemporary wall art on canvas by a Jewish artist

While I was listening to their story, I noticed a painting in the living room. It was a picture of the famous Wailing Wall by Leonid Afremov, one of the best examples of large contemporary canvas wall art I ever saw. The painter used yellow, orange and red colors to immortalize the Jewish sanctuary; large strokes of the palette knife resemble rocks, so you can even feel their shape. The Wall looks tremendous next to small figures of piligrims; they looked so tiny that I, who had never seen that place, could almost feel its special atmosphere.  This canvas wall art touched my heart. After all, the Wailing Wall is very important for Jewish people and Leonid Afremov managed to show it in his work. When I came home, I did some googling and found out that the artist runs his own online gallery, so if you are looking for a nice sample of canvas wall art, contemporary paintings by Leonid Afremov are sure to come in handy!

The importance of friends

Remember this proverb: tell me who your friend is, and I will tell you who you are? I believe in it, because all my friends resemble me in a way. I don’t wanna say that we copy each other, but we understand each other without words and always have something to talk about, especially if it concerns art; you can’t stop me when once I hit this subject. It may surprise you to hear what our common hobby is. We like to come together, get some pop-corn and watch ‘Friends’. You may argue that this TV series is rather old, but according to this article from New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/04/nyregion/friends-has-new-bffs-new-york-teenagers.html?ref=media contemporary teenagers like watching this sitcom even more than people twenty years ago! There are a lot of movies that are considered to be classical, but you can hardly ever find a TV series that is popular with so many generations of people all over the world. When I was dealing with a nice elderly couple from France, they told me that their children like watching this comedy with their kids together. It’s interesting how these short episodes can unite people – they gather to chill out, have some fun and talk to each other. Maybe, someone will find it odd, but my friend Joan has Rachel’s haircut and we often cite our favorite moments. Thanks to ‘Friends,’ our big company will always have something in common, namely, memories of a great sofa with pop-corn and hilarious jokes!

Hello, guys!

My name’s Ben Big, and my friends often joke that my place is in London, not in Lincoln. I know they love me, so I never get offended. Every day I meet a lot of new people, because I work as a realtor. I chose this job mostly because it is so sociable and lucrative, but also because I want to become a designer, and visiting different places is a nice practice for me. I can take a closer look at different paintings, sculptures and other details of décor, which is much better than visiting galleries or surfing the internet. I wish everyone could find a rewarding job that suits them!
